10/11 All Stars

Salmon Creek Defeats Hazel Dell 11-7 to Win District 6 Championship and advance to State!

Game #4 Summary
If you were biting your nails before the game you probably found some comfort in a homerun hit on the fifth pitch by BRANDON MUKENSNABL. That shook Hazel Dell up allowing bases to load on walks and errors with DEREK LEWIS, COOPER BARNUM and BRADEN ASPON. They were brought in by a nice 3 RBI double by ISAIAH LAMONT. Fly outs ended the at bat, but not after Salmon Creek put 4 runs on the board. COOPER BARNUM started on the mound and closed the inning quickly with help from a a fly out in left by TORREY SMITH, a strikeout and a nice play at third by ASHTON SCHMIDT.

The All Stars back at bat in the second struggled with a flyout and strikeout but capitalized on a walk and error on a deep hit to right field by ASHTON SCHMIDT bringing in one run. COOPER BARNUM kept the at bat alive singling on a hit to third. Hazel Dell could almost taste the end of the inning on a 2-2 count until BRADEN ASPON drove a 3RBI homerun out of the park to center-right. Salmon Creek added 4 to the board before BARNUM returned to the mound. In the bottom of the second BARNUM started with a walk and strikeout and then struggled allowing 4 walks after a nice base hit by Hazel Dell. He pulled it back together to close the inning on 2 strikeouts but not after allowing 3 runs leaving the game 8-3.

The third inning started with a base on balls by JACK NITSCHKE, but ended quietly with Hazel Dell retiring the next three batters. BARNUM returned to the mound allowing two walks before TITUS OIEN was brought in as relief to the mound. OIEN quickly rang up two strikeouts and DEREK LEWIS helped with a play at second to end the third inning.

Hazel Dell brought Xander Morrison to the mound in the fourth and Salmon Creek capitalized on 4 walks scoring 1 run before Morrison retired the bottom of the Salmon Creek lineup. Hazel Dell gained some momentum in the bottom of the fourth with an immediate homerun by the #9 batter Kyle Gruhler. Hazel Dell added 3 more to the board on single from Morrison and a double by Patrick Bryant-Capellas. Fans grew nervous again as Hazel Dell narrowed the gap with a score of 9-7.

BRANDON MUKESNABL started off the 5th with a base hit but the All Stars where unable to get anything started with the next three at bats. BRADEN ASPON took to the mound in the bottom of the 5th and quickly retired the 8-9-1 batters with defensive help from DEREK LEWIS and TITUS OIEN.

With a 2 run lead in the 6th ASPON walked and LAMONT singled to get the inning started. A fielders choice traded OIEN for LAMONT at first. The bottom of the lineup came alive with TORREY SMITH singling in the gap at short bringing in ASPON, followed by another single by CHRISTIAN MARTIN bringing in OIEN. Creek could not keep the run alive but added 2 runs to the board bringing the score to 11-7. ASPON returned to the mound and with defensive help from MUKENSNABL, SCHMIDT and LEWIS closed the game on three quick outs.

The Salmon Creek boys ended the series undefeated 4-0 to win the District 6 Championship. They will advance on to the state tournament hosted by District 2 in Gig Harbor, WA with the first game starting on July 20th.

7/1/2013:

The SCLL 11/12 All-Stars lost their final game of the season tonight, falling to the Glenwood All-Stars 13-6. It was a disappointing game which eliminated them from the district playoffs.

SCLL committed 13 errors in what can only be described as an ugly end to an otherwise fun post-season. Glenwood scored two runs in the first inning, capitalizing on two early errors. SCLL answered back in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own, thanks to a leadoff single by Dixon and a bunted single by Olivarez (Score 2-2). Glenwood struck again in the top of the 2nd with another run on a dropped fly ball in the outfield. SCLL couldn't answer in the bottom of the 2nd as Glenwood retired the bottom of the order. (Score 3-2). The third inning is when things got really ugly. After SCLL retired the first two batters in the top of the third, the next two batters walked. SCLL then made 4 straight fielding errors on balls hit by the next 4 batters. We couldn't stop the bleeding, and Glenwood scored 6 runs by the time the inning was over. SCLL answered in the 3rd scoring 3 runs on doubles by Jones and Aarhus, and a single by Dixon. (Score 9-5). Glenwood scored again in the 4th inning when their leadoff batter got on base due to a fielding error, and eventually scored on another error. (Score 10-5). Glenwood scored two more runs in the fifth when the first two batters reached base safely due to 2 more fielding errors in the infield. Jones and Aarhus once again did their best offensively to balance the score in the bottom of the fifth with a single (Jones) and another double (Aarhus), but they were only able to pull in one run. (Score 12-6). In the sixth, two more errors in the infield allowed another run to score for Glenwood. SCLL wasn't able to put anything together in the bottom of the sixth, and the game ended (13-6).

11/12 All-Stars, 6/29, Salmon Creek 0, Ridgefield 10

The SCLL 11/12 All-Stars opened their 2013 season with a 10-0 loss to the Ridgefield All-Stars. The game was much closer than the score indicated, and the SCLL boys fought hard for six full innings.

Ridgefield struck first in the top of the first inning on a ground ball to center field with a runner at 2nd base (walk/passed ball). SCLL couldn't answer as our first three batters were retired in the first inning (1-0). The 2nd inning started out with SCLL walking the first two batters and hitting a third. All three eventually scored on 2 succeeding base hits. SCLL couldn't answer in the bottom of the second, with three of the next four batters being retired (4-0). Jake Jones retired three straight batters in the top of the 3rd, and his work on the mound was done (4 runs, 4 hits, 3 BB, 1HBP, 1K). SCLL started the third inning with a couple hits, but we couldn't move them around. (4-0). Ridgefield scored two more in the top of the 4th after a passed ball and a subsequent error. SCLL put two more hits together in the bottom of the fourth and threatened with runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out, but the next two batters grounded out to the pitcher & 2nd base to end the inning. (6-0). after a scoreless fifth inning, Jacob Dixon's work on the mound was completed (2 runs, 3 hits, 2 BB, 3Ks). (6-0). Ridgefield capped the game off in the top of the sixth with a grand-slam home run after the first three batters walked, which blew the score wide open. Together, Jones and Dixon pitched very well against a very dynamic hitting team.

Offensively, we ended up with 6 hits, 7 Ks, 1 BB, 6 runners left on base. Jacob Dixon led the offensive fight going 2-3 with a double. Also contributing were Jake Jones, AJ Ahman, Joseph Olivarez, and Joe Gray (all with singles).

SCLL will play Glenwood Monday at 4:30pm in a "loser out" game.

9/10 All-Stars, 6/29, Salmon Creek 15, La Center 6

What a great day for the 9/10SCLL All Stars. Their first game was against the mighty La Center 9/10's. Both teams made it very exciting for all to watch.

SCLL started JOHN PHELPS, JR on the mound & he went an outstanding 2 & 1/3 innings. Throwing 4 strike outs & went 3 for 4 at the plate.

KYLE MEMARIAN took over on the mound pitched his brains out. Going 3 & 2/3 innings with 5 strike outs & went 4 for 4 at the plate. Talk about money, this kid is it.

At the plate, COLTON "hit the long ball" JUENGER hits 3 doubles, 5 RBI's & because they realized pitching to him was a lost cause, walks twice. SAWYER PARKIN rips a triple to center field, scoring a run. MAX MITCHELL pinch hits a double in the 3rd inning to score 2 runs.

SCLL nursed a 1 run lead up until the top of the 6th inning where they just turned the bats on to seal this game up, scoring 9 amazing runs. They then held La Center to 1 run in the bottom of the 6th to earn their first win of the 2013 All Star Tournament. CONGRATULATIONS dudes!!!!

Their next game will be on Sunday, 3pm @ Battle Ground LL, against Ridgefield. If you can, come out & support the Creek.
