Salmon Creek Little League

Major Baseball Division Info - League Age 11 & 12

Majors Division (11 & 12)

Division: Little League rules allow 10, 11, and 12 year olds to play in our AAA division as well as our Majors division. If your player was a member of a Major division team in a previous year, then they will continue to be a member of that team until they are too old to play in the Major division. In rare circumstances a returning Major division player may be re-drafted or traded to another Major division team. Typically 10 year-olds will play in the AAA division and only the highly skilled 10 year olds are drafted into the Major division.

Try-outs: All 10-, 11-, and 12-year-olds that are new to the SCLL Major division will need to try out. Returning SCLL Major Division players do not need to try-out. 10-year-olds who want to try out for the Major division should also try out for the AAA division so that coaches at both levels can see the player. Even if your 10-, 11-, or 12-year-old only attends the Major division try-out, they are not guaranteed a position on a Major division team. All players wanting to play will be drafted or placed onto a team in either the AAA or the Major division.

Draft: Major division teams will draft players they have seen at the try-out in order to fill out their team. 10-, 11-, and 12-year-olds that attend the Major division try-out and are new to SCLL may not necessarily get drafted by a Major division team. In this circumstance, those players will become a part of the AAA division draft. For siblings in the same division, parents can request that they be drafted onto the same team and this request will be accommodated. In rare circumstances, some 11- and 12-year-olds returning to the Major division may need to be re-drafted. This will happen if the number of players in the Major division decreases from one year to the next enough such that the league decreases the number of teams in the Major division.

Teams: Your child will be drafted or placed on a team by mid-February. Please contact us (see below) if you have not heard from a coach by late February

Practices: Practices can begin 30 days before opening day. Before the season starts, practices are generally held three to four times a week - generally two or three on weekdays and one on Saturday. It is up to your coach to decide how many practices teams will hold once the games begin. You should expect your child to practice at least once or twice/week during season play.

Games: Games will begin the week of March 10th (see Calendar for dates). Games are played twice or three times a week - usually once or twice on a weekday and once on Saturday. Games generally last about 2+ hours. Players should be at the field one half hour before the game starts.

Uniform: The League provides the hat and Jersey. Your coach will let you know what color socks, belt, undershirt and pants to buy.

Equipment: Your player will need a baseball glove/mitt and baseball cleats. Personal bats are optional, but must meet little league specifications (see LL rule book). Athletic supporters and cups are required. Personal helmets are encouraged. Shorts are not allowed.

Opening Day: SCLL will celebrate our opening day in early March. See the Salmon Creek web page for times and details. Players should show up in uniform and be ready to play. Team and individual pictures are usually taken on opening day. All players, even those not purchasing photos, are asked to participate in the team photo.

Volunteers: Our league is only as good as our volunteers and we always need more! Please consider coaching, being a team parent, or helping in any way you can. Please contact one of the people listed below if you are interested.
